Minnesota Walleye Angler Comes for a Big Zander… and Gets One

Last weekend I had a walleye angler from Minnesota on board. He was clear from the start: “Let’s catch a giant!”

Right away we were getting bites, but nothing stuck. Just one tiny zander that probably didn’t even understand how it ended up on the hook. But hey — we’re not heading back just because the first few fish don’t cooperate.

After hours of focused vertical fishing on the Livescope, a beautiful zander suddenly appeared in the bottom-left corner of the screen. And the moment you notice him, he’s already on his way — a straight line toward the shad, smashing into it with full commitment. Exactly how you want it to happen.

After a solid fight, a chunk just shy of 70 cm surfaced. Mission accomplished. And in style.

With the pressure gone, we switched between casting and Livescope vertical fishing and picked up several more nice fish. One of those sessions where you’re smiling all day on the water — and that smile sticks around long after.
