Zander
The Volkerak is famous for its exceptional stock of large zanders. Fishing at the Volkerak is not about quantity but quality. Every year, zanders over a meter long are caught here. About ten years ago, there was even a report of a monster measuring an astounding 114 cm. An extraordinary specimen that exceeds the dreams of many fishermen. However, I have not seen photos of this fish on a measuring tape...
Perch
For perch enthusiasts, the Volkerak is also a golden location. It is not uncommon to catch perches exceeding 50 cm.
Pike
And, of course, the fish that everyone is truly after in the Volkerak: the pike. The Dutch record pike was caught here, with an incredible length of 138 cm and a weight of over 20 kilos. This record catch not only highlights the quality of the fish stock in this water but also the potential to catch truly exceptional fish.

Fishing the Volkerak is advanced, demanding and not suited for anglers looking for guaranteed results. Fishing on the Volkerak is intensive, complex, and unfortunately, often very disappointing. The wind always has free rein here, and the best spots are difficult to find. Moreover, there are no places where you are guaranteed to always catch a fish.
If you are not willing to fish hard for 8 hours and possibly come home empty-handed, then this trip is not for you. In that case, I recommend our fishing trips on the Hollands Diep and the Biesbosch, where the conditions are somewhat milder.
However, if you want to take your fishing skills to the next level, are willing to invest in your fishing, and want a chance at catching that true record fish, then this challenging fishing day on the Volkerak is exactly what you're looking for.
